We believe that merely bridging the gap between academia and industry will not address the problem of demand and supply.

I believe that "supply and demand" is a more idiomatic than "demand and supply". Other than that it sounds good to me. (Even though I wonder about that 'merely'; is this really so easy?

I believe that "supply and demand" is a more idiomatic than "demand and supply". Other than that it sounds good to me. (Even though I wonder about that 'merely'; is this really so easy? That's not what I've experienced...)
