Is it correct?

Something really bothers me. I think that this sentence isn't correct:
She was so interesting a girl that I decided to talk to her

I think it should be: She was such an interesting girl that I decided to talk to her.

Please can someone tell me if the first sentence is correct and why?

Hi Anon The format so + adjective + a + noun is possible and also grammatically correct. I'd say it tends to give the sentence a more literary feel than the format in your other sentence (such a). She was so interesting a girl that I decided to talk to her.
