Is it called a radar?

Is this correct to say? Is this how you should write :
He was going so fast the radar didnt get his plate number for running the light.
Thanks

I am guessing that you have your sensors wrong. Radar reflects very high frequency electromagnetic radiation to determine the velocity of a moving car or truck at highway speeds.. A red light camera triggers a violation and takes photos in the visible light spectrum.
