Is it better 'toward' or 'towards'?

Hi teachers,
According to this paragraph and the following question, is it better 'toward' or 'towards'?
That was my friend George from the house down the road. Somebody saw you at the window this morning. It was that woman from the post office. The police give her money, and she tells them all the secrets of the village. Everybody hates her!’

How many people felt hostility toward(s) the woman from the post office? Everybody did.

Thanks in advance.

I think there is none whatsoever; I omit the 's' because it is unnecessary.

Hello TS.

I believe the two words are correct and interchangeable. I read that toward is preferred in American and Canadian English.

Hi, Thinking Spain.
"Towards" sounds better. Maybe , the reason is that I come across it in that way so often. In some books that I have, there are so many expressions listed by using "towards"
However, both of them is regarded as true, which may be said by the native speakers here:)
