Is it acceptable to use ‘talking’ in the given sentence?

Is it acceptable to use ‘talking’ in the given sentence? I doubt it. As far as I know, ‘talking’ involves spoken words heard, which private messaging or text messaging don’t have.

Jayson said: “Avoid talking to Jessa by means of private messaging, phone calls, or text messaging about things that remind her of her father.”

Top answer

Talking is often used simply to mean communicating. The way your sentence is written suggests that about things that remind her of her father modifies only text messaging.
