Is it acceptable to use 'so' and 'eventually' in the given sentence at the same time?

Is it acceptable to use 'so' and 'eventually' in the given sentence at the same time? Are they not redundant? I am not sure. Please help me.

Five-year-old Malou said she lacked enough food to eat, so she eventually became undernourished.

I do not think so because 'so' means because of which' and 'eventually' means 'finally'.

In other words 'so' is followed by what was the outcome. And, 'eventually' tells us about whether the outcome was immediate or otherwise.
