Is it acceptable to use ‘similarly’ and ‘but he did so’ in the sentence below?
In his speech, Ambassador Cruz said that third-world countries need help. Similarly, Secretary Perez delivered a speech, but he did so in support of Ambassador Calvo’s statements.
similarly does not work well there. It makes me think there was some similarity in the content of the two speeches. but he did so is fine..

I'd say eg Secretary Perez also delivered a speech, but he did so in support of Ambassador Calvo’s statements.
