Is it acceptable to use ‘life’ and ‘impact’ as the objects of the verb ‘portrayed’ as in the following sentence?

Is it acceptable to use ‘life’ and ‘impact’ as the objects of the verb ‘portrayed’ as in the following sentence? If not, can I simply enclose “life” and “impact” in quotation marks to make them acceptable?

1. The independent film that Andrew watched portrayed the life and impact of his university on the community.
2. The independent film that Andrew watched portrayed the “life” and “impact” of his university on the community.
