That sentence is not very natural. What are you trying to achieve/practise with it?

You see it used that way, but it's not very good. The OED has no citation for the verb in that precise sense, and if you want the truth, it sounds illiterate to me. Your mother got you interested in mathematices, rather colloquially, or she stimulated your interest in it.
