1.an erotic book, picture, or film shows people having sex, and is intended to make people reading or looking at it have feelings of sexual pleasure
The above is the definition of erotic from my dictionary. Could anyone explain why 'who is missing? I mean make people, who are reading or looking at it, have feelings of sexual pleasure.
I learnt in a main clause 'who' shouldn't be avoided.
Thanks!
iclearwater Could anyone explain why 'who is missing? Leaving out the relative pronoun makes the definition shorter, which is essential in a dictionary. By the way, no commas should be used in this relative clause, and I would add an object after read since we can't read at anything: an erotic book, picture, or film shows people having ***, and is intended to make people who/that read it or look at it have feelings of sexual pleasure This structure is called a reduced relative clause, or a relative clause equivalent in some European countries.
