Is IN THE WAY=THE WAY?

Hello.

Is IN THE WAY=THE WAY?

- We make it move (IN THE WAY / THE WAY?) that we want it to.

- I was never allowed to sing (IN THE WAY / THE WAY?) I wanted to.

Thanks.

Jesus.

Welcome to the forums! You could write your sentence either way and have it make sense. If you wrote the prepositional phrase "in the way" without the preposition "in," most speakers would understand you with no problem.

English tends to get rid of words that would easily be understood, but a very precise writer would probably include the word "in."
