Is "I have to minimize useless expenses." correct? And what would be the good expressions that can substitute that?

Hello, Mr. Mrs.
I would like to ask you a question.

Is the sentence below correct?
"I have to minimize useless expenses."

I made up that sentence to mean the situation where someone feels some pressure on money so the person wants to reduce the amount of money he or she spends on unnecessary things.

Additionally, whether or not that expression is correct, what expressions can be used as good or better substitutes for that expression?

Thank you for your teaching.

I am a student from non-English-speaking country who struggles to learn English which is a beautiful, also practical language due to your explanations.
