If someone asks me where Mary is, I can say "she is going to the toilet" or "she went to the toilet"?

which one is correct?

Depends on if she is still moving towards the toilet. If she is going then she is walking to the toilet now. If she went, then she has already reached the toilet.

If she is going then she is walking to the toilet now. If she went, then she has already reached the toilet.

However, Shirley, in the U.S., we don't usually use "toilet." We say "she's gone to use the rest room," or perhaps "She is in the bathroom."

I know that there was a thread about this - what different places say. A Brit might say "She's in the loo" and a Canadian might say "She's using the washroom."
