Is "explain" an appropriate term here?

Hi,
Is "explain" an appropriate term in the below sentence?

In the ZBA test, speed and movement prediction improved significantly in 00–03 am nap group compared to 03–06 am group. A reason why 03–06 am nap did not show improvement can be explained by sleep inertia.
Any other correction needed?

Thanks!

Yes, "explain" is fine. However I would use the article and change the 00-03 format to something more standard. m.

In the ZBA test, speed and movement prediction improved significantly for the midnight to 3 a.m. nap group compared to the 3 to 6 a.m. group. A reason why the 3 to 6 a.m. nap group did not show improvement can be explained by sleep inertia.
