Is "equipt" a word?

In British English we would say "I spelled the word" and then "the word was spelt".

Is there an equivalent for this for the verb to equip?

Top answer

I've never heard it spelled as equipt, only as equipped.

spell --> spelled (AmE), spelt (BrE) --> spelled (AmE), spelt (BrE)
equip --> equipped --> equipped

"Equipped" is pronounced as "equipt" (?kw?pt) but is never spelt that way!

Both spelled and spelt are possible in BrE. The former spelling appears to have become more common: https://books.google.com/ngrams/graph?content=spelled%2C+spelt&

Like Achilles, boldly wield

Glittering spear and ample shield:

Thus equipt, resolve to prove

The terrific power of Love.
