Is "does" sometimes read as "s"

Hello, I have a question which actually has confused me for quite a while. To me it sounds like someone sometimes would read "does" as "s", like "when's it start". Is it true?

Hi ESL Beginner You are right. In casual spoken English, that is frequently the way people often say "does" in a question such as "when does it start". Another example: What's he do for a living?

It's true in casual speech. It happens after a question word: How's ...?, When's ...?, Where's ....?, etc. The past forms (contracting did to d) work the same way: How'd ...?, When'd ...?, Where'd ...?, etc.
