IS "DO NOTHING BUT TO WAIT" CORRECT?

Hello everyone, i still wonder some questions that need your help:
I always see people say: do nothing but wait... but sometimes I see : do nothing but to wait ( Not much).
I have question: -  Are these two uses above the same?
                        -  My friends say that "DO NOTHING BUT TO WAIT" is incorrect? Are they right?
