Is "department" the right word in this sentence?

Hi,

Is "department" the right word in the sentence below? Can I use "unit" or "ward" instead?

"Subjects were selected randomly from among the staffs in the departments with noise exceeding 85 dB in the first shift based on the inclusion criteria."

Is the rest part of the sentence correct?

Thanks!
