Is collecting or to collect?

Could you help me check which sentence is correct?

1. One of my hobbies is to collect buttons.

2. One of my hobbies is collecting buttons.

In this case collecting is a better choice since it is an activity. Grammatically, the infinitive is also possible after is:

"To know you is to love you..."

That is from a very old pop song. I don't know who sang it, probably in the 1960s.
