Is 'bunched up' the correct phrasal verb?

I don't know whether this conveys what I'm trying to say or whether it is the right word. I'll let a teacher tell me their thoughts.

I had worn stocking under my pants to keep me warm but they bunched up under my pants so I took them off.

Thanks

I used to hear "bunched up" used in this way. I can't think of a better way to say it off hand. Since I've moved to a warmer climate, the issue doesn't seem to come up.
