Is "both of which" used correctly in this sentence

Since students are usually grouped by age in typical classrooms, teachers only have to focus on finding out the students’ personalities and circumstances, both of which can be accomplished through communication.

I would say that "finding out the students’ personalities and circumstances" is grammatically one thing to accomplish, not two, so it should just be "which".
