Is "based on" the correct word you use? and is it natural?

1 No one is going to give you a job based on where you worked last.
2 No producer is going to give you a movie based on your homemade reel.

Both are correct and natural.
I'm not sure they're true, but that doesn't make them incorrect.
I'd probably say, ". . . . based solely on etc."
