Three cheers for Word! They have it right!

Not even Scrabble recognizes "awaredness!"

Edit. Well, Google claims 1.34 million hits, but they seem to have something to do with MySpace.
(I got it down to 39,600 by using quotes.)

The is apparently not recognized as a word in English, but I seem to have heard it used before, and the word "preparedness" is an English word - has been since the 16th century - so this may eventually be recognized as a word, meaning: the state of being aware, like "preparedness" is the state of being prepared.

Hi,

If 'preparedness' is the state of being prepared, then would not 'awaredness' suggest the state of being awared?

If English is going down this route, we can expect to hear these soon:

consciousedness, alertedness, alarmedness, confusedness, and fortunatedness.

I write this in all seriousedness.

Awareness (the ability to notice something using your senses) is the correct word.

CliveThis is what makes 'awaredness' sound simply strange.
Actually, I think it sounds great! -- better than a lot of acceptable words. I can't wait for it to catch on!
