Is "attracted" neutral?

He turned and walked toward his office when a ding attracted his attention. He looked toward the elevator. Its doors opened and Mary got out.

Is "attracted" completely neutral or does it have a positive wipe? If the latter, is there another word I could use instead that is more neutral and equally natural?
