I do not think that "as such" has been used correctly in relation to the first sentence. The correct word, according to me, is "therefore".

I think it's correct. See:

Hi Hoa Thai

Singaporeans often use "As such" to mean "Therefore", but I was told that the phrase doesn't mean "Therefore", so I was wondering whether the sentence I posted earlier is correct grammatically.

I hope one of our members will be able to explain to me how to use "As such" correctly.

Best wishes

Hi Jain

You cannot use 'according to me'. Instead, you should use 'in my opinion'.

I would not use as such in that sentence.
I would use therefore.

This use of as such in that position strikes me as a literal translation of something from a foreign language, rather than as an idiomatic English use.

Hi Hoa Thai,

Reading your post, I have this 2 cents worth...I hope you don't take it negatively

"The shop doesn't sell books as such, but it does sell magazines and newspapers." This is fine without the "but". As such and but don't seem to sound or go well together.
