Is/ are with numbers

Re: the discussion of "two times two is/are four." Which do you think is correct, "Four is more than three," or "Four are more than three"? I think "is" is correct.

Yes, it is. Think of it as "(The number) four is more(1) than (the number) three".
(1) "Greater" would actually be better than "more" in this context.
