Hi! Everyone. I'm new here. Found this website very interesting so i registered few minutes ago. Well, my question is in this sentence 'The idea of beauty in Thailand and in the western world are/is two completely different things.', should i use is or are? It's part of my English homework. Oh thank you! I got confused at first cuz i thought maybe 'in Thailand and in the western world' makes the subject plural. Thanks again^^

I'd try:

'The idea of beauty in Thailand and that in the western world are two completely different things

or:

'The ideas of beauty in Thailand and in the western world are two completely different things'.
'
