Is "am" redundant?

This morning I woke up at 6am.

According to a friend of mine, I should write:

This morning I woke up at 6. (He said "am" is redundant because of "morning".)

Is my friend correct?

Thanks.

If your friend means that "am" makes the sentence incorrect, then they are wrong.
6 am is correct, and so is 6 by itself.
I would not call it redundant.

Here are examples of redundancy:

He was running and was singing as he went to school.
He felt sorry for the wido

So which sentence should I use? Thanks.

It's up to you really (both are fine).
