Hi,

I was talking about the words "artist" and "artiste", not "aritst" or "airtiste".

I read a newpaper headline today with the word "artistes". I didn't know this word before as I always thought it should be "artists". Of course, I have checked the dictionary but I am wondering how often this is used in real life.

Remember, this is the American perspective, but I have never seen "artiste" when it was not used in a humorous, satirical, or mocking way.

Thank you, Barbara.

The newspaper is an English newspaper in Hong Kong. They use British English. It's the first time ever I see this word. Having read what you said, I really don't know if it is meant to be satirical because the news is about something negative.
