Since you say "arr pee eff dee" you should use "an."

Hi,

It is better to use 'an' before a vowel SOUND. Never look for the vowel or consonant.

I feel it was better if an 'a' or 'the' was there before service. Though it may give different meanings.

Thanks......

Hi,

Our mission as a (or an) RPFD team is service excellence.

I hope you dont mind if I comment that this mission statement seems very bland and generic. Every business and organization in the world could say that's their mission.

Is RPFD a fire department? How about this?

Our mission as an RPFD team is to put out fires and save lives.

Yes, CJ, Clive, and I all agree that RPFD would be preceded by an "an." The sound is "ar," a vowel sound.

Those are all fine in terms of the a/an, but #10 isn't grammatical. "Cambridge is a university" is fine, though.
