Is "a lot and a lot" correct?

I'd like to emphasize something that is really in large amount.

Can I say, for example

I have been figuring out a lot and a lot of ways but I can't find out a solution.

No. We say "lots and lots" for that. It is informal. By the way, we don't find out a solution. We find one.
