Hello

Is the the helping verb "is" correctly used in the following sentence?

- It is my job to make sure that the ship, and every man on it, is safe.

Or must it be "are"?

Actually, it doesn't matter. Both of them are linking verbs, not auxiliary (helping) verbs.

"is" is correct; "are" is wrong.

What makes you think you need "are"?
