Irrelevant Sentence

There is one irrelevant sentence. Which one?

(A) The connection between sunlight and cancer has been known for a long time. (B) In 1984, German scientists claimed that too much sun could cause skin cancer. (C) Exposure to sunlight also increases the risk of developing cataracts - the world's leading cause of blindness. (D) Then, in 1928 an English scientist proved that this theory was true. (E) Since then, doctors advise everyone to use skin cream to protect against the danger of skin cancer.

Is it C? I think it doesn't fit the paragraph but I couldn't understand "1928" in D

Is the idea that you should be able to remove one sentence to leave a fully coherent paragraph? If so, this seems not to be possible. Assuming that you have copied everything exactly correctly (including the dates), there seems to be a fault with the question.
