Hi,

Let me try to explain through an example.

You do something stupid, and I say 'That was smart!' That's an ironic remark.

Best wishes, Clive

Have you heard the song from Alanis Morissette, '' Ironic''? It has a line that goes '' raining on a wedding day''.

The English saying '' Water, water everywhere but not a drop to drink'' also gives a good example of irony.
