Ironweed by William Kennedy

Followings are from Ironweed by William Kennedy.

1. More than half the men were gone from table now, Rudy still eating with a partial mind across from Francis.

********

The underlined part, does it mean that “Rudy still eating being conscious of Francis who was at a place across from Rudy” ?

2. bottles, old metal, junk, papers, no garbage.

******

‘papers’ here, does it mean only newspapers or can it also mean other paper things, for example, books, notebooks?

3. But when his wife cleaned out their bank account, poisoned Pee Wee’s dog, and ran away with the barber whom Pee Wee, by dint of hard work and superior tonsorial talent, had put out of business.

*****

I guess the underlined part means that “Pee Wee put the barber’s business to close down”. Correct guessing?
