Please check out the following sentences. Which is acceptable or better?
Can "his" be ommitted?

(1) Owing to his iron-willed and unbending willpower, Hong-Chih Kuo has become a top left-handed pitcher.

(2) Thanks to iron-willed and unbending determination, Hong-Chih Kuo has become a top left-handed pitcher.

Iron-willed is not appropriately used here. And 'unbending' means strong willpower here, so the word 'willpower' is actually redundant. Maybe this sounds better:

Owing to his unbending nature, Hong-Chih Kuo has become a top left-handed pitcher.

(2)

The problem is the same as the first sentence, and we usually write "thanks to his..."
