IOU

Hi

The director of the Amnesty International wanted a certain band to take part in A. I. tour. Then two guys from that band gave him (the director) an IOU for a week of the band's time, whenever he needed us, with the idea he could use that to get other people involved.

--- I completely have no idea what they are talking about? As fas as I know IOU is a document acknowledging debt, but I still don't get what they were trying to tell him, i.e., "a week of the band's time", "whenever he neede us", "with the idea..." What are they talking about???

Hi IOU for a week of the band's time - t he band is promising one week of their time. whenever he needed us - basically on demand he could use that to get other people involved - the fact that this band is involved may encourage other acts to get involved too. As far as I know an IOU is a document acknowledging debt - correct.

Hi

But what a document acknowledging debt has anything to do with it?

Hi
It seems that they have just borrowed and adapted it - IOU means I owe you, and is generally used to refer to a debt/money owed, as you know.
Here IOU refers to time owed rather than money.
