Hello,

1. He was covered with dust.

2. He was covered in mud.

Are both sentences correct? If yes , then why can not we use "covered with mud"?

2. He was covered in mud.

Are both sentences correct? Yes. If yes , then why can not we use "covered with mud"? You can. 'covered in dust' or 'covered with mud' are both OK.
