Does the highlighted sentence mean

1. They are intended to function as incursions into ‘social practices’ or ‘how things work in society’ – including the art world itself – and also as a form of generative dissolution over time.

or

2. They, involving a form of generative dissolution over time, are intended to function as incursions into ‘social practices’ or ‘how things work in society’, including the art world itself .

my problem is with the role of "involving" there.

Context:

As I have indicated earlier, several of the original Projekte works have undergone precisely such a transfiguration over time. Above all the artist sees his works as being infused by, as well as integral themselves to, sociopolitical, historical and environmental cycles. They are intended to function as incursions into ‘social practices’ or ‘how things work in society’ – including the art world itself – involving a form of generative dissolution over time.

This apparently means something like: the artworks function inseparably in a sociopolitical-historical-environmental context - they "infuse" themselves into the world at large, and then "dissolve" into it, after generating the change-producing effects that they cause.
