Inversion of verb and subject or?

"Far more important was the meeting Hagen had set up with Virgil Sollozzo the following Friday."

How come the verb is in front of the subject? I am a little bit bewildered by the word order. Is it inversion, thus used in a formal style?

Thanks a lot.

The verb is before the subject because a relative clause whose antecedent is the meeting follows: Far more importa nt was the meeting that/which Hagen had set up ... If far more important weren't placed at the beginning for emphasis, another solution to the "problem" would be: The meeting that Hagen had set up with Virgil Sollozzo the following Friday was far more important.
