Inversion

What are the rules of inversion that happens in question in passive form and active form?

Top answer

The general rule is that we invert subject and auxiliary verb in direct questions. If there is no auxilary verb, then we use DO as a 'dummy' auxiliary: Mary can speak French. - Can Mary speak French?

By the word subject we mean its place or who do the action

He was hanged..he ,here, doesnt mean he do the action
.he, here ,refers to an object.

He was hanged.

He is the grammatical subject of the construction was hanged. The fact that the action of hanging was performed on him is shown by the passive voice of the verb.
