Inversion

Hi, teachers.

I recently saw a news interview with an acquaintance who I was certain was going to lie about a few particularly sensitive issues, and lie she did.

The verb “lie” and the subject “she” are inverted the above sentence.

Could you tell me the reason why not “and she did lie, or and she lied” but “lie she did”?

Many thanks in advance.

jasnkid Could you tell me the reason why not “and she did lie, or and she lied” but “lie she did”? It is simply a stylistic device, a sort of 'tag' comment.
