Inversion

He is a patriot, as are his brothers.

Can anyone help me to analyze the sentence? Does it equal"He is a patriot, so are his brothers" or can we say"He is a patriot, as his brothers are"? Thanks.

There are some sentences in the textbooks like "A better understanding of the environment is necessary, as is the willingness to act“?How to analyze "...as is the willingness to act"?

'as is the willingness to act' -- is an adverbial clause of comparison. Subject and operator can invert if the clause is no more complex than that.

The environment has worsened, as has my outlook on life.

Can we write is like this"The environment has worsened, so has my outlook on life" or"The environment has worsened, as my outlook on life has"?

Can we write it like this"The environment has worsened, so has my outlook on life" or"The environment has worsened, as my outlook on life has"? Is it an adverbial clause of comparison or an adverbial clause of manner? Must it be inverted?

We can write it like these:

"The environment has worsened, and so has my outlook on life."
"The environment has worsened; so has my outlook on life."
"The environment has worsened, as my outlook on life has."

It is an adverbial clause of comparison. It need not be inverted.

But "A better understanding of the environment is necessary, as is the willingness to act“is a right sentence. Indeed it is inverted.

Yes, and it is fine that way. What is your question?
