Introductory vs. Introduction

Hello everybody

in a couple of books I have seen a chapter intitled "Introductory" - instead of the more common "Introduction".
Could anyone kindly explain what is the difference between Introductory and Introduction?
Is "Introductory" just a bit old-fashioned for "Introduction" or is there a difference in meaning?

Thank you!
Kind regards
Sabine

They have the same meaning. 'Introductory' is a shortened form of 'Introductory Remarks/Information/etc'. You shouldn't see it in more respectable books; it is a newer coinage.
