Introductory it (infinitive and gerund possible?)

Hi,

It's fascinating to hear his stories when everybody is already in bed.

It's fascinating hearing his stories when everybody is already in bed.

Is the second sentence correct? If yes, is there any difference at all?

Thanks!

Hi,

The first sentence is OK. I've googled out the "it's fascinating to hear" and got 157,000 results. There are many adjectives used with infinitives, mostly in the pattern 'it + be + adjective + infinitive'.

Both are correct. No difference -- except I think the first form is more usual.
