Introducing oneself

Hello everyone,

I have a super simple question for you today. (I can't believe I am posting this thread) Do the sentences below sound unnatural to you?

- Hi, I'm Jean, and I am from France.

- I'm Carlos, and I come from Spain.

My little cousin's teacher told him that native speaker's never say "I'm...(one's name)" and that the "and I am from France/Spain" part sounded odd. Instead, he should have written: "My name is Jean - I am from France"

Old Gene's heard plenty of native speakers say things like "I'm Jack/Sarah/etc" or "...and I am from Australia/the UK/etc". So, what do you think?

Gene93 - Hi, I'm Jean, and I am from France. - I'm Carlos, and I come from Spain. Those sentences are fine.

  • Gene93 - Hi, I'm Jean, and I am from France.
  • - I'm Carlos, and I come from Spain.
  • Those sentences are fine.
  • The first would be more natural with I'm instead of I am '.
  • The teacher's versions are good, too.
