Intrinsic motivation

Hello,

can you please tell me what exactly "intrinsic" means? Is it the same as "innate"? If so, can "innate" replace "intrinsic" in this sentence?

"Intrinsic motivation is what drives us to fulfill our potential and interests."

Thank You

" I'm uncomfortable with both of them in this sentence. "Innate" would be in-born, so not everyone would have it. "Intrinsic" is something which is possessed by definition , so I guess intrinsic motivation would have to be part of everyone's DNA.

Thank you for your answer. At first I thought that the athor meant motivation which is a part of one's character. That's why "innate" came to my mind. But it's the first time I've come across "intrinsic", so it was rather a guess.
