into/to town

I got one of the staff members to give me a ride into/to town.

Are both equally natural?
Thanks.

In terms of speech, I would probably use "into", but, knowing me, I'm probably wrong! JGG

I'd want to say Let's go to the city centre (purpose: clubbing-shopping).

Is it the same meaning if I say into town or into city ? If one lives in a city, are they suppose to use the word city ?

I got one of the staff members to give me a ride into/to town. Are both equally natural?-- They both sound quite natural.

Is it the same meaning if I say 'into town' or 'into the city' ? If one lives in a city, are they suppose to use the word 'city'?--- It is not a rule; either is certainly OK.
