Into versus in to

When do you use into versus in to in a sentence?

Top answer

It can be a bit confusing. Into is often used for things you can enter (a room/a car etc), go into/get into. Note - we say enter a building or a room not enter into.

  • You are better using in rather than into if not sure, but using in is just less formal instead of into.
  • Other verbs that can go before into are Break/Broken, Crash/drive/bump/run, divide/cut/split and translate.

Hi CJ.

I have seen you put many posts on this site - and indeed you helped me. I am about to do a CELTA course, although I am worried about my knowledge of grammar.
