I'm puzzled by the suggestion that that's where you should be. " just means "What kind are you involved with? " If someone says you're into ****, they're simply disagreeing with your taste in music.

  • They think that what you like is ****.
  • I can't understand why anyone would recommend that someone should be in **** instead of where they are.

"What kind of music are you into?" just means "What kind are you involved with? What kind do you like?"

Hi
ESLBeginnerHello, I'm wondering what's the meaning of 'be into ****'
**** (slang) = not of any value/worth/usefulness/merit.

to be into **** = you like what others consider to be rubbish/of no worth/merit.

Hi,

You might want to note that some people consider the word '****' unsuitable for polite conversation.

Hi, beginner.
We all seem to enjoy a meeting of the minds about what constitutes ****, or what **** constitutes.
But I continue to puzzle over the rest of your phrase. Why do your friends believe that that's where you should be? - Or am I mis-parsing again?
I couldn't make heads nor tails out of yo

Hi,

What I understand is that people is surprised at the genre of music he likes (maybe he's into Chopin and Vivaldi? Emotion: big smile

Good point, Tanit. My brain seems to be stuck in reverse lately.

(Hmmm, funny thing you should mention Vivaldi.) Emotion: smile

Avangifunny thing you should mention Vivaldi
Why? I'm Italian, you remember? Emotion: wink

I'm hip. (That was supposed to be a joke.)

I almost wrote, "Only an Italian would have mentioned Vivaldi," but I wasn't sure how that would go over.

I understood it the way Tanit did.

If you're a young person, you are expected to like a lot of music that this person considers bad. Maybe he's just into the Beatles or other "oldies" bands instead of Lady Gaga or .... uh... Maroon 5.

I stand corrected. [Y]

It's sort of ironic. When I assume a poster means what he says, he really doesn't.

But when I assume he doesn't, he really does.
